Ik Multimedia Forum3/28/2021
Its good to see,one doesnt need too rob the bank to record a songrecord.I couldnt dislike IKMs products more and I really tried in 2013.
Wont look back because for me Waves have not only been working out great, but have re-molded my whole work process. As for CompressorsLimiters, I have 24 different in my palette. To my ear, the IK Multimedia stuff is more in-your-face, maybe even a bit over-done, but that would describe my sound as well. When I use those plugins, Im looking for something that is going to make itself felt because thats the sound I go for. When comparing the LA2A compressor emulations from each company, I just couldnt feel enough of the Waves version without cranking it way up, but I could get there with the IK version really quick. Its funny that way. In spite of a folder full of fancy reverbs, including Eventides new one, half the time I reach for that cheesy Focusrite reverb that came free with my old audio interface. Its pretty basic and doesnt have many presets, but I know its sound, love the overt character it adds, and can dial it in really quickly to get exactly what I want. I was one of those people that ignored the commonly-heard advice just use what comes with Live and master that first. Instead, I voraciously downloaded every freebie, mag-ware, and demo that caught my eye. End result After the first couple years, I had dozens of folders of useless crap that I ended up archvinng --but-- all that craziness helped me discover my sound, my voice. Ik Multimedia Forum Professional Versions OfIt led me to buy more professional versions of some of them which helped me refine things further, but I knew what I was aiming for before I spent much money. Were all looking to recreate that sound we hear in our head, and the tools to get there are as different as those sounds are. This isnt really a discussion of one companys quality versus another. I think its more about what tools have you found that helped you reach that voice. Maybe because my way of listening to music aint over the top fx wise. I used to compare my choices with that of other, sometimes famous people in the bussiness. I dont do that anymore, I hear and read stuff about gear and fx and software, but take my own path in the land of music. Other their choices dont make your music, and others wont pay the bill for your gear n stuff, do they Enjoy making music your way, be it with brand A or Brand B, and for the sake of discussion: I like Waves stuff more than IKM. For using too much plug-ins - you are right Use a few goodsounding ones, and off you go I think the stock FX of Live are OK,but not more than that, but that goes for a lot of FX suplied with a DAW. Im confinced one could make a fabulous recordsong with just Live Intro, while other struggle to go beyond the 8 bar loop with all means of the world. I watched quite a few videos and read articles of Graham Cochran of the Recording Revolution. He claims, you dont need a fortune to record a good song, and in a way he is right.
